Outdoor Dropout Fuse Cutout with Arc Shield for Transformer and Overhead Line Protection

The DGG Outdoor Dropout Fuse Cutout with Arc Shield is designed for overcurrent protection in medium-voltage overhead distribution networks. It features a dropout fuse holder, an insulated support structure and an upper arc-shield assembly. When a compatible fuse link operates under fault conditions, the fuse holder releases and drops into an open position, providing visible indication of fuse operation.

The product is suitable for distribution transformer protection, overhead feeder branches and outdoor electrical distribution projects.

Product Description

The DGG outdoor dropout fuse cutout is developed for distribution systems that require overcurrent protection and a practical indication of fuse operation.

The assembly consists of a ribbed insulating support, upper and lower contact mechanisms, a removable fuse holder, an operating ring, mounting components and an upper arc-shield structure.

During normal operation, the fuse holder remains engaged with the upper and lower contacts, allowing current to pass through the installed fuse link. In the event of an overload or short circuit sufficient to operate the fuse link, the fuse element melts and the resulting arc is extinguished through the fuse assembly's arc-extinguishing process.

Once the fuse link operates, the mechanical holding arrangement releases the fuse holder, allowing it to drop into a visible open position.

The arc-shield assembly and contact arrangement are important elements of the product's mechanical design. The exact rated interruption and load-switching capabilities must be determined from the corresponding model specifications and test documentation.

With its outdoor installation arrangement and replaceable fuse-link design, this type of fuse cutout is suitable for pole-mounted transformers, overhead feeders and distribution network maintenance applications.

Key Features

Dropout Fuse Holder Design

The fuse holder releases after fuse-link operation, providing a visible indication that the fuse has operated.

Upper Arc-Shield Assembly

The upper assembly incorporates an arc-shield structure. Its specific interruption or switching function depends on the product's tested configuration.

Ribbed Insulating Support

The ribbed insulating structure provides electrical insulation and mechanical support for the contact and fuse-holder assemblies.

Hot-Stick Operating Ring

An operating ring is provided for operation with the appropriate insulated operating tool and approved procedures.

Outdoor Distribution Application

The structure is intended for outdoor distribution installations, including overhead feeders and pole-mounted transformer protection.

Direct Overcurrent Protection

The fuse link provides overcurrent protection according to its specified time-current characteristics.

Flexible Project Selection

Electrical ratings, fuse-link characteristics, insulation requirements and mounting arrangements can be selected from available model configurations.

Working Principle

During normal service, the fuse holder is held in its operating position, completing the electrical path through the fuse link.

When a fault produces sufficient current to operate the fuse link, the fuse element melts and an electric arc develops inside the fuse tube. Arc-extinguishing materials and the fuse assembly's internal design help extinguish the arc.

After the fuse link operates, the holding mechanism releases and the fuse holder moves downward under mechanical forces and gravity.

The resulting open position provides a visible indication that the fuse has operated. Before returning the cutout to service, the fault must be addressed and the fuse assembly inspected by qualified personnel.

Q1. What is an outdoor dropout fuse cutout?

An outdoor dropout fuse cutout is an overcurrent protection device commonly installed in distribution networks. It uses a fuse link to interrupt specified fault currents and a dropout mechanism to provide visible indication after fuse operation.

Q2. What is the purpose of the upper arc shield?

The upper arc-shield assembly forms part of the contact and arc-control structure. Its specific performance depends on the product design, rating and test results.

Q3. Is this fuse cutout suitable for transformer protection?

This type of fuse cutout is commonly used on the primary side of distribution transformers. The fuse link and cutout ratings must be selected according to the transformer and network conditions.

Q4. Can the fuse cutout interrupt load current?

A dropout fuse cutout must not be assumed to have loadbreaking capability solely because it has an arc shield. Load interruption is permitted only when the exact model is rated for the intended duty and the required operating procedures are followed.

Q5. Can the fuse link be replaced?

Yes. A compatible fuse link can be replaced after the fault is resolved, provided the fuse holder, contacts and other components have been inspected and found suitable for continued service.

Q6. What information is needed for a quotation?

Please provide the system voltage, rated current, fuse-link requirements, available short-circuit current, installation conditions and any required technical specifications or test documents.

Looking for an Outdoor Fuse Cutout for Your Distribution Project?
